IRIS has been a world leader in the design and manufacture of geophysical instrumentation since 1989, when it was formed from the geophysical instrument manufacturing division of BRGM, the French Geological Survey.

Today, IRIS is 49% part owned by OYO a world leader in engineering geophysical surveys and technologies.
